Multi-functional materials and micro/nanosystems laboratory is specialized in designing, manufacturing, and employing a variety of smart materials and micro/nanosystems for diverse applications. Smart materials are substances or systems which change their properties or functions upon external stimuli. We further extend this expertise towards other research disciplines including microassembly and micro-soft robotics. Our research outcomes can be exploited for many applications ranging from reversible dry adhesives to micro-LED and QD-LED assembly, wearable electronics, and microfluidic devices.

MAJOR RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENTS
  • Reversible dry adhesives, digital microfluidic surfaces, and light manipulation surfaces via shape memory polymers and elastomer/Si composites
  • Micro-LEGO for 3D integration
  • Photoresist contact patterning for QD integration
  • Elastomeric MEMS for sensing, actuation, and energy harvesting
RESEARCH INTERESTS
  • Smart Surfaces for Reversible Adhesion, Tunable Wetting and Light Manipulation
  • Micro-LEGO (Transfer Printing-Based Microssembly) and Nanomanufacturing
  • 3D MEMS Fabrication
  • Micro Soft Robotics
