Our lab conducts research on robots and mechanisms designed to operate in environments that are dangerous or difficult for humans to access. We design and build bioinspired systems based on the way living organisms exhibit different physical traits depending on their environment and mode of locomotion. Our research not only focuses on the development of robotic systems but also aims to deepen our understanding of the principles underlying animal locomotion. Ultimately, our goal is to apply these technologies to real-world applications such as disaster response, safety inspections, and environmental exploration, areas in which direct human involvement is difficult or dangerous.

MAJOR RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENTS
  • Demonstration of the first jumping take-off and powered flight on a fixed-wing platform
  • Development of multi-environment robotic platforms combining aerial and terrestrial locomotion
